1st circle of hell: SkyCable by 2008

Words have been circulating since last week na starting January 1, 2008, Basketball TV, Solar Sports, Jack TV, ETC, 2nd Avenue and Crime/Suspense will no longer be part of Skycable’s channel lineup. I guess you can understand me if I tell you na nakakabuwisit ang balitang ito hindi ba?

Anyway, ipapalit daw ng CPI (Creative Program chuva of ABS-CBN) sa mga ito ang new channels namely Maxx,Velvet (parang ETC din na perhaps the only good thing I will like about it eh ang inclusion sa lineup ng DIRT ni Courteney Cox), Balls (sports channel ito, don’t laugh), Fox Crime (na ang dami kong nababalitaan na it pales in comparison to C/S) and one kids’ channel from London.

Part of me wishes to give them a chance pero the thought of losing 4 of the few cable channels that I regularly tune in to overrides any possible good thing that this change will bring.

Sabi nila it was just a business decision. Kaya tuloy ang Solar, naglabas ng announcement, a part of which made me cringe at the thought of losing the above-mentioned channels by 2008. Excerpts:

Greetings from Solar Entertainment Corporation!

We would like to provide everyone with updates on recent developments in the area of programming, such as key acquisitions, telecast policy and business initiatives.

1. Solar has entered into agreement with the International Olympics Committee (IOC) covering all Exclusive Broadcast Rights including Free TV, Basic Cable, satellite, mobile television, pay television, closed-circuit television and internet television for the following:

* 2008 Beijing Olympic Games
* 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games
* 2012 London Olympic Games

(yadda yadda yadda)

Renewed hit series for the season are the following:

* Bones                   * 24                           * Shark
* Prison Break       * My Name is Earl  * ANTM
* Project Runway  * Saturday Night Live
* One Tree Hill      * Without A Trace  * Cold Case
* The Closer           * Men in Trees        * Hell’s Kitchen
* Extreme Makeover Home Edition     * Beauty And The Geek
* Law and Order SVU                             * Nip Tuck
* The Simpsons     * Family Guy           * Survivor: China
* America’s Got Talent

Recently acquired for telecast over next few months are the following:

* The Sopranos                   * Entourage
* My Boys                            * The Tudors

And from the new television season in the U.S., the new series we have acquired are the ff:

* Bionic Woman                   * The Sarah Connor Chronicles
* Pushing Daisies                 * Chuck
* Big Bang Theory               * Alien In America
* Journeyman                      * New Amsterdam
* Big Shots                            * Burn Notice

3. The most exciting news for all our clients and agencies which we would like to share with you, coinciding with the start of the new Fall Season in the United States, Solar will be scheduling series such as Heroes, 24, Prison Break, Sarah Connors Chronicles and Bionic Woman, on a day and date basis with the US telecast schedule.

This means, instead of waiting for the inevitable delay due to tape shipment and to counter the illegal downloading of content on the internet, cable viewers can now watch these series at the same time as the American viewers.

This scheduling innovation will surely add more value to their viewing experiences.

What say you? Saan na tayo lalagay nyan?

I was thrilled at the prospect of the showing of the series that we follow here. Well, if there is no more more apt term, it can be loosely translated as having a 24-hour delay lang or less, like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on ETC, The David Letterman Show on Jack TV and dati si Ellen sa 2nd Avenue, na I wonder ano nangyari. Speaking of The Tonight Show, Hugh Laurie will be there on the 21st, LA time, so 11 pm ng Sept 22 sa atin, we’ll be able to watch it na.

Let’s see how this piece of news would unfold further.

I’m off to define the other circles of hell I “experienced” in the past 7 days lang. Mild pa lang ito.
