I know Robinson’s Ermita so much that I can walk from the Faura entrance to the Pedro Gil exit blindfolded and I can name all the stores in it. As in on all floors. Nine years ba naman akong magpabalik-balik dyan, ewan ko na lang kung kayo hindi nyo pa rin mamemorize ang buong lugar na yan.
For the past few months, the construction of the Midtown wing really brought inconvenience to mallgoers, or to us na mahilig gawing tawiran ang Rob kesa lumakad sa Taft Avenue o i-endure ang murderous thought-inducing traffic sa Del Pilar St. hanggang Hyatt Hotel and Casino. I have long missed Starbucks by the Pedro Gil exit kaya kahit Gloria Jean’s natutunan ko nang mahalin. Lately, pati TGIF niliitan then finally sinara muna nila to gave way to the final phase of the construction.
I was out of my route last week so I was only able to see the newly-constructed Midtown wing of Robinson’s kanina! If you’re used to the size of Rob, you’ll comment that the new wing is huuuuge. If before, the only wing to the right was the Adriatico wing, now two openings were made to connect the new wing to the old straight path.
Wala pang names of the stores that will fill the spaces although some will be relocated lang (Nine West is one, to a bigger space). Hindi na masyadong chaka at masikip ang exit sa Pedro Gil wing because they opened a big one na labasan at pasukan ng tao tlaga, you know what I mean? =) Starbucks will still be by the Pedro Gil exit and I was happy to see their “Brewing Soon” tarp. Then lo, across it was a bigger tarp of UCC! Then sa taas ng UCC would be Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Yay! Tamang tama. The Gokongweis love me.
I hope they will roll out the new shops soon. Kapag bago ang isang part ng mall, you’ll still appreciate its immaculate marble floors and its industrial paint smell. Through time, mawawala na ang excitement and frankly, lulumain na sya sa kakalakad ng mga taong tulad ko.
