In 26 days, I can buy books again. I am very excited for the 1st of July to come although I am keeping everything in check (sanity, purse, discipline, etc. – lol). A friend once told me it takes 14 days to develop a habit. Well, well, well, it’s been 5 months and how many days so I believe I can pull this off. I know I could never swear off buying books but to at least trim down my purchases would be a feat. I am not only saving money but also tons of space in our very tiny apartment (so in essence, if I get richer and acquire a bigger place, then book buying ban be damned; just saying).
However, the goods keep on flowing. Back in February, my boss had a spring cleaning of her shelves and gave me nine books. Then just this morning, she gave me her extra copy of Stephen King’s 11/22/63! What a way to start my morning! It’s surreal in a nice way because just last night, I planned my June required readings and SK appeared more than once in my shortlist. In fact, I was reading Cell before I slept. Anyway, my boss said she thought the book’s so good, and that’s a comment coming from someone who does not like SK. So what does that mean for me? SK is my childhood literary hero! I’m excited to dabble into it and I hope I could squeeze it in soon.
As for my reading updates, I’m barely scraping by, but I’m happy I get to finish books, no matter how slow a pace. I just finished all the books of Julie James and I was surprisingly impressed. I cannot wait for her next book to come out. I’m also trying to wrap my head (but unsuccessfully so, at the moment) around urban fantasy series, more specifically Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files, Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, and Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate series. I’m currently on books 2 of Dresden and Fever, and book one of Parasol. I intend to get through the entire series in the next few months.
Sometimes, I cannot believe we’re already on the sixth month of 2012. At any rate, here’s to six more months of reading!
