The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 13th and runs through Sunday, August 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.
Yay for my first read-a-thon participation for 2012! I have been setting my eyes on this and finally, today, I decided to take the plunge. I know that next week is going to be extra stressful at work, what with the catching up tasks and calamity relief efforts we are expected to make because of the devastation of the floods. However, I will treat this activity as my break, my diversion of sorts after each long, exhausting day. After all, this is a low-pressure kind of read-a-thon. 🙂
I plan to read books from three authors for this read-a-thon: Judy Blume, Caroline Cooney, and E.L. Konigsburg.
I dug their books from my TBR pile and I figured they are my best books for this week-long activity. In total, there are 10 books I pledge to read (the Losing Christina collection has three). I hope to read them all within seven days!
Here are the titles of my book pledges for this read-a-thon:
1. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
2. Tiger Eyes
4. Starring Sally J. Friedman as Herself
5. The View From Saturday
6. T-Back, T-Shirts, COAT, and Suit
Caroline B. Cooney
7. If The Witness Lied
8. Losing Christina 1: Fog
9. Losing Christina 2: Snow
10. Losing Christina 3: Fire
Realistically speaking, I could only read two hours at most from Monday (Aug. 13) to Friday (Aug. 17) because of my work days and some socials at night I already said yes to long ago. On Saturday, the 18th, is the Filipino Reader Conference. It’s a whole day event but I think I could squeeze in two hours or more on that day. Sunday is family day and if you know me, after Mass and lunch out, it’s always reading time at a coffee shop! 🙂
If you plan to join this read-a-thon or other similar activities, The Grammarian’s Reviews wrote a concise and helpful post about prepping for a read-a-thon. I will take the suggestions by heart and more importantly, enjoy it. 🙂 I will create a sticky post to track my progress for the entire week.
