I finally decided to make my very first month-long personal readathon (PRAT). I would like to kick it off by Manfiction September!
I came across the term manfiction from a 2008 online article of one of my favorite authors of all time, Stephen King. It actually was a term coined by his son, author Joe Hill, who is also a favorite horror novel writer! Simply put, it’s fiction of men for men by men (thanks, Urban Dictionary!). Their themes usually revolve around crime, suspense, mystery, and espionage with male protagonists.
I noticed that I have many books in my TBR pile that can be categorized as manfiction, so here I am, slashing them from the pile!
I chose books penned by Daniel Silva and Martin Cruz Smith. Frankly, I chose them mainly because of their location in one of my book closets — they’re the ones easily seen, ergo, easily pulled out. I will dabble into other manfiction titles soon. That would enable me to spin more Manfiction PRATs. On top of my head, I have my extensive Ken Follett collection, and some of Lee Child, Jonathan Kellerman, Vince Flynn, and David Baldacci. I’m so excited! But for now I need to pull this one through well.
Here are the titles for my Manfiction September PRAT:
1. An Unlikely Spy
2. The Mark of the Assassin (Michael Osbourne #1)
3. The Confessor (Gabriel Allon #3)
4. Prince of Fire (Gabriel Allon #5) [re-read]
5. Moscow Rules (Gabriel Allon #8)
Arkady Renko Series by Martin Cruz Smith
6. Gorky Park
7. Polar Star
8. Red Square
9. Havana Bay
10. Wolves Eat Dogs
11. Stalin’s Ghost
12. Three Stations
Now, I know I wouldn’t be able to finish all of them this month, but I will certainly take everything I can. Football season is almost in full swing so my reading times at night and weekends may be lessened. I’m also taking Coursera courses. So realistically, 4 to 5 books are good enough for me. By the end of the month, I might cross it with a Banned Books readathon in celebration of Banned Books Week.
At any rate, here’s to Manfiction September! Wish me luck! I will keep you posted. 😉

Best of luck to you! It sounds like fun. I like to mix in manfiction here and there. I used to love Clive Cussler, I should find one of his…it has been a while!
