Top Ten Books I’d Want To Bring On A Deserted Island

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

For this Tuesday, November 13, here are ten books I’d want with me on a deserted island (and need I remind you, this is a tough list to make!):

1. The Master and Margarita – Mikhail Bulgakov

For all its eccentric plotlines, this is my top choice to carry with me, mainly because it’s one of my favorite books of all time!

2. Judith McNaught’s Westmoreland saga + Paradise series

This has — give or take — five different books but I want to haul them all for my feel-good fix.  I can read these books over and over.  During the deserted lonely nights, they will be my perfect companions.

3. The Zombie Survival Guide – Max Brooks

Of course, this isn’t fool proof as it is probably considered a parody, but it pays to be prepared, just in case something happens.

4. Madam Secretary – Madeleine Albright

I have always been fascinated with the former Secretary of State.  When I have all the time in the world on a deserted island, I will read this doorstopper of a memoir.

5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – J.K. Rowling

My reason?  The copy I have is my friend Shei’s which has been with me for two years.  Lugging it and reading it give me hope that I’ll be out of the island soon because Shei would not like it if I don’t return her book.

6. The Mists of Avalon – Marion Zimmer Bradley

Do you have a book that has been with you for long but you haven’t read it for reasons you also cannot comprehend?  This book is one.  So you want me trapped on an island?  Let’s bring this one then to get it over with.

7. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell – Susanna Clarke

See #6.

8. Anna Karenina – Leo Tolstoy

See #6 and #7.   In addition, this book is so huge, I could use it as a weapon one way or another.

9. Bossypants – Tina Fey

I read it in one sitting so I know I missed a few details, add the fact that I was busy laughing.  I’d love to read it again.

10. The Bible

The best book there is. 🙂

  1. Haha, in case there are zombies on the island?

I’m a new follower 😀 Here is my TTT

  2. The Master and Margarita is one of my favorites, and I've Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell on my list too 🙂

    • TMaM is something you read over and over and still find something new to gush about it. 🙂 Hope we get to read Jonathan Strange… soon even if we’re not on an island.

  3. I loved Strange and Norrell…in fact I’d love to read it again. Great list!
