Bout of Books 6.0 ~ Finish Line Post

Welcome to my Bout of Books 6.0 finish line post!

bout of books 6.0

This week is over and so is Bout of Books 6.0!  I’m happy I participated for the second time.  Regrettably, I joined only one Twitter chat session, commented on a few blogs, and was unable to join any challenges or giveaways, but I’m still satisfied.  Even at a snail’s pace, I managed to finish three books this week, and that’s a feat for me.  On Friday and Saturday, I had to do many things that I did not flip a page!  At any rate, in sum, this is how I performed for this read-a-thon:

Total number of books read/finished: 3
Total number of pages read: 795
Books Read/Finished:

  1. The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver
  2. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
  3. The Book Without Words by Avi

Congratulations once again to the organizers, participants, and sponsors!  Booklovers, unite! 🙂

~~~~~ My introductory post:
It’s time for Bout of Books 6.0!
Last August 2012, I joined my first read-a-thon challenge, Bout of Books 5.0, and I enjoyed it.  It also motivated me to read beyond what I normally do on a busy work week.
What exactly is Bout of Books?
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.
The start of BoB 6.0 coincides with my first day back at work after a week-long break.  So with all the catching up I will do, squeezing my reading time will have to figure out in the mix.  I plan to read the following books within the week:
1. The White House Mess (Christopher Buckley) – I will not start this from scratch.  It’s part of my hefty currently-reading pile for a year now.  I am not even one-fourths through it so I believe it still counts.  My goal is to finally finish it.
2. Little Green Men (Christopher Buckley) – This one has been sitting in my pile for — get this — almost 7 years now.  The author became one of my favorite contemporary satirists after reading Boomsday and Supreme Courtship, two books which I bought two years ago.  It’s time to de-neglect this book…even though it’s not even a word. 🙂
3. The Sense of an Ending (Julian Barnes) – I have this as an e-book.  As I learned in the past, it’s helpful to alternate physical and electronic copies to endure a read-a-thon.
4. The Spindlers (Lauren Oliver) – I also have this as an e-book.  I figured I throw in a YA book for good measure.
Four books in seven days!  I guess this is very doable.  As for my other goals, I plan to participate in at least one Twitter chat session and comment on blogs to cheer fellow participants on.
  1. I’ve got similar goals.
    Hope to meet you at the Twitter chat sessions.
  2. Hope you find the time and energy to read as much as you can. Good luck on the read-a-thon.
  3. Great list. Good luck and have fun!
  4. Four books is definitely doable! And wow – keeping a book on your currently-reading list for a whole year? I usually give up if I haven’t read from a book on there in a month. Good for you for sticking to it!
  5. Looks like a good goal list. I haven’t heard of any of these books. See you at the twitter party and good luck!
  6. Oh, I really want to read the Spindlers, I was thinking of picking it up and reading it with my kids (ages 8 and 10)!
    I also have to work during BoB 6.0 but I’m hoping to make good use of break times and the commute to and from work!
    Have fun!
  7. Four is quite doable (: Good luck!
