I’m joining R.I.P. VIII! It is a reading challenge which means Readers Imbibing Peril hosted over at Stainless Steel Droppings. It runs from September 1 to October 31. What is this challenge all about?
Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above. That is what embodies the stories, written and visual, that we celebrate with the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril event.
As time has wound on I’ve honed this event down to two simple rules:
1. Have fun reading (and watching).
2. Share that fun with others.
Quite easy, isn’t it? There are levels of participation called perils and they are not just limited to books — movies and TV shows count too so long as they meet the perilous criteria! 🙂
There is a very wide ground to work on so I’m pretty sure I am going to enjoy this one. With the contents of my reading plate, it will even feel like I am not bound by a challenge at all.
For this two-month event I am going to participate in:
Peril the First. Read four books, any length, that you feel fit (the very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature.
I plan to re-read The Shining in anticipation of the release of Doctor Sleep at the end of this month. I also plan to read the second book onwards of Joseph Delaney’s The Last Apprentice series — a series I’ve been putting off for a very long time! There are many books in my TBR pile that satisfy the R.I.P. requirement – will pick them up as I go along.
Peril of the Short Story. Read short stories any time during the challenge.
For this, I intend to dabble in the newest installment in the Trese series, Stories From The Diabolical. I also saved Uncle Montague’s Tales of Terror and Tales of Terror from the Black Ship for this! Lastly, How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea by Mira Grant, which is a Newsflesh novella. I am only halfway through Deadline, has been since late last year (ugh), so I’m hoping I won’t be so lost when I read this.
Peril on the Screen. After reading The Shining, I will watch the movie version. I also have accumulated episodes of Under the Dome so I will spend time on them, too. And hey, The Conjuring! It’s high time to watch it because I tried and no one wanted to come with me. I also have zombie films in my drive from long ago, given by my friend EM.

I will post reviews whenever I can. A progress post is sure to appear here, too. More importantly, I’m going to enjoy these two months regarding my favorite genre!
