A year ago, I secretly took this photo while in line at the supermarket. It amused me because, why and what for, sir? That time, the first of what will be many lockdown variations were in place but work was generally business as usual. Unconfirmed screenshots about firmer quarantine rules were being passed around different group chats but we only confirmed it when the President announced that effective next day, Luzon and NCR will be under enhanced community quarantine, the kind where non-essential establishments will cease onsite operations and transportations will shut down.
That’s how this point in history started for me. We welcomed it in different ways. A year later, wearing a mask is a norm and every waking morning I’m thankful I still smell my morning breath because it means I get to toddle another day.
It is a very different time so it boggles me when it feels like we are reliving 2020, like a TV show that was picked up for another season.
Where were you and what you were doing a year ago?
